Cette année la plus ancienne faculté de médecine du Monde qui a été créé à Montpellier le 17 août 1220 fête ses 800 ans ! Tout au long de l’année 2020, la Ville la Métropole et Radio Aviva célèbrent ce huit-centenaire.

A l’occasion, nous avons eu la chance d’accueillir dans nos locaux, Jean-Pierre Dedet, professeur de médecine à la faculté.

Dans son interview, M Dedet va remonter le temps jusqu’en 1498 pour nous faire découvrir l’histoire de la faculté depuis les balbutiements de l’enseignement de la médecine , 

sa responsabilité dans des périodes charnières comme la peste noire qui frappa l’Europe de plein fouet, ou encore la relation qu’entretient Montpellier avec la médecine, cette discipline phare de la ville.

Au XIVe et XVIe siècles elle compte près de 4 000 étudiants. L’école montpelliéraine s’est installée, en 1795, dans les locaux de l’ancien évêché, qu’elle occupe toujours. L’École de Santé devient École de Médecine en 1803 puis en 1808, faculté. La ville de Montpellier s’est créée autour de la médecine. Forte de cette empreinte, Montpellier inscrit dans son ADN un esprit d’innovation, d’ouverture au monde, d’humanisme et d’attractivité.

Avec pour ceux qui le souhaitent une programmation d’évènements culturels, scientifiques et festifs comme : les expositions du musée Fabre et du musée Atger mais aussi le monastère bénédictin jouxtant la cathédrale Saint-Pierre, les trésors de l’établissement, tels que sa bibliothèque de 900 volumes de manuscrits et bien d’autres merveilles. Des événement comme la soirée « MEURTRES ET MYSTÈRES » pour les 800 ans le 29/08/2020. Pour trembler et se perdre. Dans la faculté de médecine avec cette soirée, façon Cluedo sur d’illustres suspects, personnages historiques de la faculté.

LE 17 AOUT, 800 ANS TOUT PILE.

Radio Aviva a assisté à la commémoration de la date d’anniversaire des 800 ans de la plus ancienne faculté de médecine au monde. Sur placeune centaine d’invités accueilli par Philippe Augé, président de l’université de Montpellier, accompagné de Sophie Béjean, rectrice de la région académique d’occitanie, Michel Mondain, doyen de la faculté de médecine de montpellier. Mais aussi Michael Delafosse Maire de Montpellier et de nombreuses autres personnalités du monde médical et universitaire afin d’assister au dévoilement solennel de la plaque commémorative de l’acte fondateur de la création de la faculté de médecine, le 17 Août 1220.
